Ed Sheeran sees no stopping, he has become UK’s most played artist for the third time in last four years.
The surprising fact here is that Ed released no music last year and has no song in the top 10 chart.
Ed Sheeran finished ahead of Calvin Harris who finished second ahead of Little Mix who are on the list for the third consecutive time. Other big names on the list were Coldplay, Rita Ora, Dua Lipa with Pink who was the only artist not from UK.
The list was compiled by PPL, who monitors the music played on all the streaming platforms.
Portugal The Man’s feel-good hit Feel It Still, originally released in 2017, still garnered enough plays to become the biggest radio hit of the year while These days by Rudimental featuring Jess Glyne, Den Caplen and Mecklemore was second on the list.
The other songs on the list were, For you by Rita Ora and Liam Payne, Calvin Harris’ One Kiss and Shotgun by Goerge Ezra.
Pink’s What About Us edged in at no 10, making the list for the second year in a row. This landmark has been only achieved by one song before which was Maroon 5’s Moves Like Jagger.
Peter Leathem, chief executive at PPL said: “Radio, TV and public performance usage is a significant indicator of the most played music in the country, so PPL is pleased to report a successful 2018 for homegrown UK talent.
“Ed Sheeran again keeps his place as most-played artist, but other performers like Calvin Harris and Little Mix have also held their 2017 top five spots, helping UK music come out on top.”
